Exposing Racism in The North East

Our first major regional research into the prevalence and impact of racism across the North East provides an important starting point for understanding what people are experiencing across our communities.

Though numbers were small, the research explores how racism is experienced, how often it occurs, whether people report it, and some of the barriers that shape those experiences.

Among the findings, 78% of respondents said racism was an everyday or regular issue in the North East, while 73% of those who experienced racism said they did not report it to the police.

These findings give us evidence to build from, but they are not the end of the conversation. We hope this research will be a starting point for continued listening, learning and action across the region.
