In her powerful TED Talk “The Danger of a Single Story,” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explores how the stories we tell, and the ones we choose not to tell, shape our understanding of the world and each other. She reminds us that when we hear only one narrative about a person, place, or community, we risk reducing complex human lives to narrow stereotypes.

Adichie’s message speaks directly to our work at the North East Anti-Racism Coalition. Challenging racism and discrimination requires that we make space for many stories – for truth told from different perspectives, for lived experiences that disrupt assumptions, and for voices that are too often unheard.

By widening the stories we share, we build a North East where everyone belongs, and where no one’s identity or experience is defined by a single lens.

If you haven’t seen it yet, we encourage you to take a few minutes to watch Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s talk. It’s a powerful reminder of why storytelling, empathy, and representation matter in our collective fight for justice and equality.
